Produced from 1955 to 1962 the MGA was a big success for the British marque, with just over 101 000 units sold worldwide, most to export markets. It was upgraded more than once, and the Mk2, as featured here, arrived in 1960, with a slightly enlarged engine and design changes distinguishing it from its predecessors.

Though nearly 8 200 Mark 2 Roadsters were built, only 521 coupes were reportedly produced. That makes this a very rare car indeed!

This example has been completely restored from the ground up and is a real pleasure to behold and drive. It presents beautifully with its striking red paintwork and tan interior. Besides looking good, this MGA also drives very well... which is to be expected if you know MGs.

The 1622cc engine starts up with ease and pulls well. The 4-speed box takes a little getting used to with its non-synchro first gear but from there the shift action is direct and sporty. The steering is direct and tight, and mated with the restored suspension it is like driving a "new" version of an MGA.
