First launched in 1963, the second-generation (W113) Mercedes-Benz SL gained the nickname "Pagoda" by virtue of the concave appearance of its hardtop. An advanced car for its time, the W113 was sold in three different engine variations; 230 SL, 250 SL and 280 SL.

The 230 SL featured a 2.3L inline six engine with multipoint fuel injection that delivered 110kW. Buyers could choose from 4-speed manual or automatic, or 5-speed manual transmissions.

This example is a left-hand drive 230 SL that has had an engine upgrade (to the 2.5L from a 250 SL). The current owner has had it for eight years and recent work includes;

  • Power steering was bled
  • The differential mounting bush was replaced
  • The gearshift linkages were replaced
  • The throttle linkages were refurbished and adjusted
  • A correct distributor was fitted
  • Vacuum advance system was repaired

This is a non-matching numbers SL, and therefore offers a significantly more affordable entry point to Pagoda ownership.
