For Sale - 1966 Mercedes-Benz (W113) 230 SL "Pagoda"
Regarded as one of the world's most timelessly beautiful classic cars, the "Pagoda" SL is a darling of collectors. This example, however, is significantly more affordable...
First launched in 1963, the second-generation (W113) Mercedes-Benz SL gained the nickname "Pagoda" by virtue of the concave appearance of its hardtop. An advanced car for its time, the W113 was sold in three different engine variations; 230 SL, 250 SL and 280 SL.
The 230 SL featured a 2.3L inline six engine with multipoint fuel injection that delivered 110kW. Buyers could choose from 4-speed manual or automatic, or 5-speed manual transmissions.
This example is a left-hand drive 230 SL that has had an engine upgrade (to the 2.5L from a 250 SL). The current owner has had it for eight years and recent work includes;
- Power steering was bled
- The differential mounting bush was replaced
- The gearshift linkages were replaced
- The throttle linkages were refurbished and adjusted
- A correct distributor was fitted
- Vacuum advance system was repaired
This is a non-matching numbers SL, and therefore offers a significantly more affordable entry point to Pagoda ownership.
