The original Pontiac Tempest was unveiled in October in 1960 at the Paris Motor Show. It was offered as a “compact” model! That might seem incorrect, but considering the size of Pontiac’s other cars at the time, this new four-door family car was indeed smaller than the rest of the range.
However, soon there were coupés and convertibles on offer, too. The second generation arrived in 1964 and the size of the vehicle increased - it shared a platform with the Chevrolet Chevelle.
This particular '67 model is a striking gold-on-gold example. It has loads of road presence, being so long and wide, a look that is accentuated when the top is dropped. It is powered by a rumbling 5.3L V8, which provides more than enough torque for the two-speed automatic transmission to play with. For the vehicle's age, the gold-themed interior has worn well and instantly takes you back to the '60s!
