FOR SALE: 1969 Alfa Romeo Spider 1750cc Series 1

Widely regarded as one of the most beautiful cars ever made, the iconic "boat tail" Alfa Romeo Spider is a prized feature of any classic car collection, particularly ones focused on cars from Italy. This example is one of the last of its type made...

First launched in 1966, the iconic Alfa Romeo Spider was initially offered with a 1 600cc engine, but in 1968 Alfa Romeo updated the car to include the so-called 1750 engine. Thankfully, they didn't mess with the timeless design of the car, and the trademark "boat tail" rear end remained part of the offering. Prices of boat-tail Spiders have risen significantly in recent years, and right-hand drive examples in this condition rarely come up for sale in South Africa.

This 1969 example's chassis number suggests that it was one of the last 22 built. When the current owner acquired the vehicle several years ago it had a 2,0-litre motor fitted to it. The car then underwent a complete nuts-and-bolts restoration and was painted in Alfa Rosso Farina Red (Hellrot) (AR304) with a white undercoat to accentuate the Alfa Red. The motor was replaced with a period-correct, overhauled 1750cc engine and a 5-speed factory gearbox with a hydraulic clutch system was fitted. It is presently equipped with a set of very rare 1750 Mark 1 Buttress (Bertone) seats - a set of newly rebuilt and relined, upholstered Spider replica seats are available as a substitute.

Collectible Wheels

Save for a few minor paintwork blemishes, this is an all-round excellent condition example that runs and drives perfectly with everything working as it is supposed to, including the heater system.

Rarely do examples of the "boat tail" Spider come to market in such fine order, especially in right-hand drive. This is a great opportunity to take ownership of this stylish ‘60s Italian sports car and join the ranks of the 'Alfisti'.
