The Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL 6.3 was a full-sized luxury performance car built by the legendary German manufacturer from 1968 to 1972. It featured the company’s famous 6.3L V8 engine from the flagship 600 (W100) limousine. The end result was a nearly 2-ton sports sedan with muscle car performance, making it one of the world’s fastest four-door cars at the time of its release. It could sprint to 100kph in a scarcely believable (at the time) 6.6 seconds.
Although not originally intended for motorsports, examples of the 300 SEL were modified for racing by the (then) little-known AMG outfit from Affalterbach. The AMG-fettled 300 SEL most famously went racing in the iconic 24-hour of Spa back in 1971, winning its category and achieving second place overall. This resulted in an almost overnight rise to stardom for the AMG brand, ultimately bringing it together with Mercedes-Benz.
This left-hand drive example dates from 1971 and is in completely original condition. It has covered (at least) an indicated 46 275km. The 300 SEL was an extremely luxurious and advanced car at the time, with features such as air suspension and power steering.
Interesting trade-ins will be considered.
