The BMW 2002 is one of those automotive success stories that wasn't necessarily planned as much as it happened by chance. Two very senior (and passionate) BMW staffers had both put 2.0L engines in their 1600-2s, to up the performance. At the same time, the American importer started enquiring about a more powerful variant of BMW's small sedan to sell, and so a proposal was made to BMW's management board to develop the 2002.

The result is, as they say, history, and the 2002 was a smash-hit that sold in big numbers, and also laid the foundation for BMW to position itself as a creator of fun-to-drive, charismatic enthusiasts' cars.

This exceptionally neat Malaga Red example (with black interior) was the subject of a nut-and-bolt-restoration by Custom Restoration BMW and won the BMW Club Concours competition in 2018 (Show & Shine), 2019 d'Etat and 2022 Best Sports Coupe in show.

The original invoice and other interesting paperwork was handed down with the car, making its history even more complete. Driven to the office once a week by its current owner, the car has done only 898km since its restoration.
