When the Citroën DS was first unveiled at the 1955 Paris Motor Show, it stunned visitors (and other car brands) with its futuristic look and tech, including hydropneumatic suspension that gave it unparalleled ride quality. It was also one of the first cars to use mix-material construction (steel, aluminium, glass-reinforced plastic) to lower weight and centre of gravity.
The DS, or Goddess as it is affectionately known, enjoyed a long and successful model life, only being replaced in 1975. By that time more than 1.4 million of these cars had been built.
This blue example is a Series 3 car, which features another trick piece of DS tech - directional headlamps. It is powered by a 2.0L engine that delivers surprising torque at low revs, and the slippery body aids cruising ability.
This lovely car was bought new in Worcester in 1973 and has spent most of its days in the Cape Winelands. It has lived a pampered life, first being taken care of by the agents, and then Mister-DS himself, Kurt Wittig, South Africa's most-trusted DS mechanic.
The current owner purchased the car in 2009, and Wittig has serviced the car ever since. A full, no-expense spared, restoration was done in 2020, making this DS probably the best of its kind in South Africa.
This DS's restoration has been full documented and the car is sold with a fully documented service history, stamps, service books and more - available upon request.
Interesting trade-ins will be considered.
