The Jaguar E-Type is widely regarded as a motoring icon and its success came from a combination of high performance, beauty and competitive pricing. Enzo Ferrari was known to have commented that the E-Type was the most beautiful car ever made.

The Series 3 E-Types were significantly different to their predecessors. The 5.3L V12 engine necessitated a stretch in wheelbase and the fitment of bigger brakes, among other items. Consequently the E-Type became more of a grand tourer than a sports car.
