FOR SALE: 1979 Mercedes-Benz 450SL (R107)
Known to many as the "Bobby Ewing" Mercedes SL, the R107-generation of Mercedes' SL is an iconic roadster that has recently started rising rapidly in value. This is a pristine V8 example.
Year and Make/Model: 1979 Mercedes-Benz 450SL (R107)
Engine: 4.5L V8 Petrol
Mileage: 166 000km
Colour: Astral Silver
Produced for a staggering 17 years from 1972 to 1989 and in various guises, the R107-generation Mercedes SL is perhaps best-known for its starring role in the hit '80s TV series, Dallas. When the last R107 (a 560SL) was produced in 1989, this generation of SL had set an internal production record of 237 287 units, illustrating its enduring popularity.
The R107 was also the first Mercedes SL to be fitted with a V8 engine, and this 450SL is just such an example. Produced from 1971 to 1980, 66 298 examples of the 450SL were built. The engine produces a healthy 160kW, sending power to the rear wheels via an automatic transmission.
This automatic example still has its original paint from the factory and is in near-showroom condition. The interior surfaces and wood are remarkably free of the usual wear and tear that comes with age. Then again, given the car's build year, the mileage is relatively low.
This 450SL is finished in Astral Silver on the outside and features a beige leather interior. It comes with a matching hardtop (as well an optional extra hardtop stand), full factory toolkit, manufacturer's literature and documented service history verifying the mileage.
