As is usually the case with the introduction of a new Mercedes-Benz S-Class, the introduction of the W220 generation in 1998 introduced a raft of new technologies for the brand, as well as setting a new design "look and feel" for the Three-Pointed Star.

Significantly more elegant than its bulky W140 predecessor, the W220 was actually a smidge smaller, but offered more interior space (and a slightly smaller boot).
