Audi previewed the R8 with its stunning Le Mans quattro concept car in 2003, but very few expected the relatively conservative German brand to follow it up three years later with a production car that stayed very true to the initial "promise". And when it arrived, it arrived with a bang... changing perceptions of the Audi brand and receiving widespread critical acclaim.

Much of its underpinnings were shared with the period Lamborghini Gallardo, but as an Audi it had to offer the luxury and comfort that buyers would expect from the brand. Its a difficult balance to get right, but for many the first Audi R8s really hit the sweet spot.

Powered by the marque's high-revving, naturally-aspirated 4.2L V8 engine, mated with a 6-speed semi-automatic gearbox from Graziano, and featuring all-wheel drive, the R8 was a sizzling drive.

This exceptional 2008 example has done only 42 700km and is in excellent condition all-round. It also boasts the desirable metallic gray / silver side-blade colour combination and carbon-fibre engine bay finish.
