While the prestigious Concours South Africa event will take place later this year in September, the organisers hosted a fun "Express" version in Johannesburg this past long weekend.

The “Express” version of Concours South Africa is a people’s choice only-event with Best of Show being decided by the shoppers, diners and car fans present on the day only. Certainly, visitors were surprised at delighted when they found such marvels as a Ferrari F40, Porsche 356 and Mercedes-Benz 190 SL proudly on display at the Neighbourhood Square in Linksfield, Johannesburg, this past weekend.
The "Express" is positioned as a foretaste of Concours South Africa proper where cars are painstakingly judged on originality, presentation and provenance. Ultimately the event saw the iconic, fire-breathing 1990 Ferrari F40 take a solid victory.
Second place went to the yellow (Giallo Modena) 1999 Ferrari 355 F1 Spider followed by the charming green (verde chiaro) Fiat 500 N from 1958. So, a very appropriate clean sweep for Italian cars on a weekend when Ferrari also made a dominant, triumphant return to the top step in Formula 1.
“We were delighted by the excellent turnout at our second ‘Express’ event following the disruption of the pandemic," says Greg Marucchi, MC and co-owner. "Heartfelt thanks to all who turned up to celebrate 'the good old days'. A garden party with cars as its backdrop, Concours South Africa proper returns the first weekend of September 2022!”
