SentiMETAL at the #CarsAwards

The SentiMETAL division of Cars.co.za showcased its entire collection, including a beautifully restored Alfa Romeo GTV6 3.0, at the company's Consumer Awards - Powered by WesBank

It wasn't only the best new cars that were celebrated at the recent Cars.co.za Consumer Awards - Powered by WesBank, but also the growing SentiMETAL collection of South African specials.

The night started with a bang when local superstar Cassper Nyovest performed his iconic song "Gusheshe" while the MC, none other than Bonang Matheba, arrived on stage in our recently-acquired BMW E30 325iS Evo 1.

Later in the evening the E30 got even more time in the limelight when Hannes Oosthuizen arrived on stage in a red BMW 325iS Evo2, a project that is nearing completion. Along with the 333i, the Evo1 and Evo2 incarnations of the E30 325iS are the most legendary for South Africans, particularly those who grew up watching them race in Group N in the early '90s.

Very shortly after, a deep rumble could be heard backstage before another red beast arrived, a classic Ford Capri Perana. The car (a rare automatic in Peri-Peri red) will be completely stripped and restored this year, so will be back to its original, as-new condition, for the next #CarsAwards.

And then it was time for the star of the night, an Alfa Romeo GTV6 3.0, to make a turn on stage, after the audience was treated to a video detailing its expert restoration at Algadine Panelbeaters in Randfontein.

The car's restorer, Basie Theron, had spent 10 years collecting parts for the car and agreed to sell it to the SentiMETAL collection on condition that it remains in South Africa.

Seeing as our goal is to preserve the heritage of these South African specials, selling the Alfa was most definitely not part of our plan, so happily this pristine GTV6 3.0 is now a member of our fast-expanding collection.

The car that started the collection, our beloved Opel Kadett 2.0 GSi Superboss, was also in attendance, parked in the reception area where guests were drawn to our burgundy beauty and many a selfie was taken, including with former Mrs South Africa, and 2019 Survivor Runner-Up, Nicole Capper.
