SentiMETAL Gathering - Somerset West 17 November

The next SentiMETAL meet will take place on 17 November but it takes on a slightly different format. See below for more details.

Team SentiMETAL is signing off a busy year in style with a final gathering (for 2019) of petrolheads at the stunning Motor Studio at Lourensford Estate in Somerset West on Sunday, November 17th.

"This will be our third Western Cape event for the year and we hope to make it very memorable, as well as carry momentum through into 2020, when we hope to shift up a couple of more gears!," says Hannes Oosthuizen, Cars.co.za Consumer Experience Manager and SentiMETAL project Head. "We're also thrilled to welcome Liqui Moly as a partner of the event," Oosthuizen added.

Unlike previous "OutRuns", the focus this time falls on the gathering or meet. "We looked at the feedback from previous events carefully, and it's quite clear that a drive following a morning meet is difficult for some people from a logistical point of view," Oosthuizen explains.

This time round, the organisers will instead identify 3 meet-up spots where participating drivers can gather and then collectively drive towards Lourensford Estate, where the "Gathering" will take place in a jovial, relaxed environment.

The three meeting spots are as follows;

  • Stellenbosch (Mooiberge Farmstall - large parking area at the top). Aim to meet here at 8:30 am and the convoy leaves at 9 am to be at Motor Studio at 9:30 am.
  • Sea Point Promenade (Large parking area in front of The Peninsula). Aim to meet here at 8 am to leave at 8:30 am to be at Motor Studio at 9:30 am.
  • Constantia (Chardonnay Deli, 87 Constantia Main Road). Aim to meet here at 8 am to leave at 8:30 am to be at Motor Studio at 9:30 am.

The pins for the above locations have already been shared in the Whatsapp group for this meeting. If none of the above meeting points suit you, you are welcome to make your own way to Motor Studio, for arrival at 09:30 am. Note - you have to sign-up using the Google form at the end of this article.

"Motor Studio offers plenty of safe parking, and is a great venue to take photographs. Because of the Lourensford Market, there is also a large number of food and beverage vendors, and we'll have our own SentiMETAL store there as well," Oosthuizen says.

There will be some fun prizes up for grabs on the day, and a charity (Camphill West Coast) has been identified, which will benefit from the running of this event.

Make sure your car is sparkling as the judges will be looking closely. "We're looking for originality, and also something unique or rarely seen," says Oosthuizen. Three prizes will be handed out with the most original/unique car in the 3 judges' eyes being rewarded with a day's venue hire from Motor Studio. The value of this prize is R7 000.

Another prize is a professional photoshoot with one of Cars.co.za's top photographers, with all photos made available digitally to the owner afterwards, and a frame of his/her choice made and delivered. The value of this prize is R5 000.

A third prize from sponsors Liqui Moly will be announced soon.

Those still keen on a drive after lunch are welcome to join Hannes for a cruise along the Rooi Els Road.

If there are any questions related to this event, do not hesitate to contact Hannes directly at hannes@cars.co.za. Those interested in an "OutRun" after the Motor Studio gathering are still welcome to join Hannes for a drive along the beautiful Rooi Els road.

Please note that SentiMETAL events are aimed at classic cars (including Modern Classics), that are as close to original/stock (at least visually) as possible.
