Car enthusiasts again flocked to the Garden Route town of George to get their dose of retro machines. The turn-out was fantastic.

The George Old Car Show returned with gusto this year after a hiatus in 2021 and a scaled down show in 2020. With and enlarged display area and many new projects completed during the COVID lockdowns being on show, car fans weren’t disappointed.

As the Knysna Car Show is sadly no longer on the calendar this is now the premier event in the Cape with enthusiasts from across the country converging on George with many turning the event into a road trip giving motorists a rare opportunity to see a high volume of classics out and about on the roads and not only at the show.
As always there was a fantastic turn out of Mercedes Benz cars, underpinned by the collection from the ScriBenzeum, with an example of almost every model range and engine on show.
Kobus Mostert’s amazing collection of 1950’s and 1960’s American classic proved exceptionally popular as did the display of over 40 tractors from different eras and manufacturers.
The Borgward brand, which stopped production in 1961 but has recently been revived, had a very strong presence this year with a huge variety of beautifully preserved and restored cars on display.
It wasn’t only about old cars with many modern classics on display and some amazingly modified cars including a Toyota 86 with a 2JZ-GTE Turbo engine swap.
Speaking of engine swaps there were a number a Ford Capri Perana’s, a very rare Ford Granada Perana and a Sierra XR8 all with Fords venerable Windsor V8 on display.
The George Old Car Show is a must for all car enthusiasts and represents a wonderful opportunity for a road trip on some of the country's most scenic and best roads on the way there!
