The Citi Golf story is, of course, a well known example of local marketing genius. When Volkswagen South Africa realised that the second-generation Golf would be a significantly larger, more sophisticated car than its Giugiaro-penned predecessor, it decided to continue producing the Mk1 as the Citi Golf, hoping to capture a large slice of the budget car segment for a few more years.

That the vibrant Citi Golf certainly achieved. In fact, it was so popular that production continued all the way until 2009! To celebrate the end of the Citi Golf era, VWSA produced a limited run of 1000 Mk1 Limited Edition models in 2009. Produced only in Black and Shadow Blue metallic, each Mk1 is individually numbered, marking it out as a definite future collectible, particularly as Mk1 fandom is rising globally.

This example

The particular Shadow Blue metallic Citi Mk1 is number 677 of the 1000 made and was first registered in 2010. This car has had only two custodians since new and has been garaged and kept in near-showroom condition - the delivery plastic still wraps the sunvisors!

The factory-fitted semi-leather upholstery with red stitching is in great condition and factory stickers and tags are still on the vehicle.
